RIP Abbie Hofmann

The father of LSD (no not Tim Leary) passed yesterday in Switzerland. He was 102, which just goes to prove that drugs do not kill you. Hofmann first synthesized the drug in 1938 but didn't realize what the hallucinogenic effects were until 1943 when he accidentally ingested it.

I was reading a book called Acid Dreams: the Complete Social History of LSD: The CIA, the Sixties and Beyond back in college which I never finished (because I don't have the book anymore). It was about how LSD came about and made its way over to the States as a truth serum to be tested by the CIA, and about how they unleashed it on Haight-Ashbury in the 60s only to quietly observe from afar. It's pretty interesting to read about Operation MK-Ultra and how CIA agents used to "dose" each other as pranks.

Look at our crazy government.
