Fall into my closet

All the fall season clothes are slowly making an appearance. Here are a few things that have caught my eye so far:

This is a great dressy top for night time. I don't like all those shiny fabrics that girls like to wear so much. And the color is a great muted tone and is versatile to wear with some nice pinstriped slacks or dark jeans. This top can be found at Anthropologie.
Great with dark jeans or a pencil skirt. I've been lessening my wearing of graphic tshirts and sneakers. People still think I am a recent graduate - this gives me incentive to not dress so scrubby now. Comfort is still key but I need more casual pieces that don't look too young. Another one from Anthropologie!
I love that this necklace is asymmetrical. And it's turquoise which is one of my favorite colors. This reminds me of planets. And of the beach at the same time. Love this. Please run to Anthropologie, Christmas is coming. This year we ARE doing presents.
A flashback of Bjork's swan dress? Thankfully no. I am feeling the sweater dresses this season and plan to stock up on some. This is a little more flashy than I'd normally wear but it makes the regular sweater dress more fun and colorful. I'll keep hunting high and low (A-HA!) for one that suits me. Also from Anthropologie.
I've always wanted a pair of yellow shoes. These are great - I love ballet flats because they're comfortable but these have a nice toe detail that makes them more interesting, but not stand out too much in a bad way. IE: buckles (guilty, unfortunately), flowers, etc. From Anthropologie. I swear I can flesh out an entire wardrobe from this store. But I won't.
Grey pearl and sterling silver necklace by Alexis Bittar. I love interesting and unique pieces, which is why I love this necklace. So many elements going on and it can be dressed up or down depending on what you're wearing. Not a very practical buy for the upcoming colder months, as they'll most likely get hidden under sweaters and coats. This would be a good spring necklace for that "Tada! Here is my chest!" effect.

More from Alexis Bittar. Lucite bangles that also come in green, red, silver, brown... These are great for stacking. I like that they not an even width all the way around - makes them more interesting.
Tramper boots from Minnetonka - I can't decide which color I want them in as they also come in a tan/taupe color. I really wish they came in red but will make do with one of these.

Teal Gap dress. At only $54, this is a great buy. And versatile enough to make the transition from summer to fall. Great color and very comfortable (I tried it on yesterday). The best part is, it comes in petite as well.

Mail prizes

You all know I am a huge jewelry admirer. And you also know that I am a huge fan of pieces from Deb at Bonbon Oiseau. Her unique, whimsical jewelry is so thoughtful and at the same time delicate and strong. I love reading her blog for inspiration, whether it be a recipe, photos from a trip or new blog find. This is a recent post from her - I was too late to be one of the first three but I'm reposting this anyway, as I love receiving but most of all, giving.

"Pay it Forward Exchange:
Here are the rules: I agree to send something fun, cute, and nice to the first 3 blog owners who post a comment on this entry. In turn, those three will post this information and pick 3 people they want to send something to and so on. Unfortunately, due to postage costs, I can only pay it forward within the United States. If you are interested in participating, be one of the first 3 blog owners to leave a comment!

You have to promise that you will then post about this on your blog, link to me, and then send something to the first three people who comment on your blog so that this continues. When I have the first three to comment I will email you a request for your shipping address and I will send out something that I hope will make you smile!"

Some scenes from Blue Hill at Stone Barns. Delicious, farm fresh food followed by a wobbly stroll around the property - through the greenhouse and over to the livestock, where we saw some chickens eating one of their own. The circle of life!

Selling stuff

I bought these shoes for a wedding I am going to later this year. Unfortunately, I have not learned that I cannot wear Sigerson Morrison's shoes, which are so beautiful and slim. Anyway my feet spill out the sides because I am horribly flatfooted (thanks, Pa!).

They do, however, go beautifully with the dress I bought.

DOH!

So if you are interested, I encourage you to visit it on eBay. I know - shameless self-promotion. But it has gotten hardly any hits and I have listed it about 4 times! If you know anyone interested, please pass it along. They retail for around $300 and I am offering them at a steal.

These are the next shoes I bought for the same occasion. They're pretty right? And who doesn't love a pair of gold shoes! They are flat and comfortable. However. I must have some severely deformed/irregular feet because they are GINORMOUS on my feet. Normally I wear a size 6.5 - 7. These are a Euro size 37, which translates to about a US 7 and I can fit a full finger behind my heel when I try them on.

I can't tell you how pissed I am that these shoes don't fit, because otherwise, I would definitely not be selling them. I'm getting so frustrated that Alex had to sit me down last night and tell me that they were "just shoes." JUST SHOES!! Men will truly never understand.

If you like this pair, visit it on eBay. Retails for $220 and also being offered for dirt.

Both pairs are new, sold in their boxes.

It really pains me. But then again, I am going to hit up DSW later, like I probably should've done in the first place. Wish me luck.

"My Impure Hair" by Blonde Redhead, dir. Mike Mills

Finally caught Beautiful Losers tonight at the IFC Center. Chronicling the early art of skate culture, it showcased some of my favorite artists such as Geoff McFetridge and Jo Jackson. Also included were Harmony Korine (Kids, Gummo, Julien Donkey Boy), Barry McGee/Twist, Shepherd Fairey, Chris Johanson, Thomas Campbell, Mike Mills and Margaret Kilgallen.

Inspiring to watch and both funny and sad - please catch it before it ends its short run.

Later that night, Gang Gang Dance at East River State Park. Last year the Boredoms performed in DUMBO with 77 drummers. This year, GGD and 88 drummers converged on the waterfront and blew my eardrums with rhythm. The last 15 minutes were a total frenzy - totally crazy and wonderful.

Make me a mixtape, something old and something new

Mixtapes

Sad news.

Who even remembers these anymore? Why do I still have them?

Honestly, I still listen to some of my old mixtapes. So many memories associated with them that I just can't bear to throw away or digitize. Real hands wrote in those letters, real hands cut out images and glued them to the covers. A real person spent real time arranging and choosing songs to put on these tapes and I can't do them the injustice of getting rid of them.

I used to listen to a lot more music in high school. Back in the day where you actually knew the albums. You had a physical relationship with a tape or CD. Nowadays I gather music so fast I don't have time to absorb it all. After sponging up melodies, bass lines and lyrics I'd take pen and paper and write down all the songs I wanted to tape, then spend another couple of hours rearranging the order. Then I'd carry all the music to my dad's office where the baller soundsystem was and hole myself up for an entire afternoon. Making one mixtape. After the music was recorded it didn't end there. I kept a huge stack of magazines and colored paper to make covers with, which was just as fun as picking out the music.

Back then, you knew when you got one that it was made with thought and love. And maybe some tears as well. Bring analog back!

Weekend

Friday
Sunflower

I took Friday off and basically did nothing. Which I needed very much. That night we watched The Dark Knight at Lincoln Center in IMAX, but despite arriving 30 minutes early, the only seats left were in the 2nd row. Despite this, the movie was awesome and some great performances put in by Heath Ledger and Michael Caine.

NYC Loves Olafur Eliasson

On Sunday we biked into Manhattan and took the ferry to Governor's Island. Nice and relaxing but we could've done with some picnic food and Scrabble - the food choices were not great. Afterwards, dinner in Chinatown and back across the Manhattan Bridge where I was treated to my first peek at one of Eliasson's waterfalls.
